Stella Bella Wines

Stella Bella Wines is a small, privately owned wine company, located in the Margaret River region of Western Australia that makes wines under the quixotic brand names of Stella Bella, Suckfizzle and Skuttlebutt.

The Stella Bella range of wines is sourced from and produced in Margaret River. However Stella Bella is more than a name or a wine - it is an expression, a passion, and a summation of things bright, spirited and beautiful.

Stella Bella Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2006

A signature Margaret River blend displaying the bold varietal best of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

Semillon's vibrant aromas of ruby and orange citrus arm in arm with Sauvignon Blanc's exotic tropical and stone fruits are finished by a dash of sweet herbs and vanilla pod spice.

On the palate, Semillon's bold citrus and grassy/herbal flavours are fresh and crunchy while Sauvignon Blanc's ripe gooseberry, dusty black currant and tropical fruits add flesh to soften and balance the fruit tingling acidity.

Complex and slightly yeasty with lemon and grassy notes. Well balanced palate with good fruit acids, finishing clean and long.

This wine comes from one of my favourite producers at Margaret River. There are three tiers to the range of wines that in addition to Stella Bella also includes the outstanding Suckfizzle and the value for money Skuttlebutt.

Each range is made to a distinctive and consistent style and standard, with the Stella Bella sitting nicely in the middle and offering great value for money and real quality. The Stella Bella range is sourced from Margaret River and includes a mix of the exotic, classic and regional signature blends.

This excellent blend is delicate yet intensely flavoured expression of the semillon and sauvignon blanc mix. The palate has a creamy richness with fresh lively fruits still dominant. Plenty of nice lingering flavours with a sprightly crisp acidity.

94/100 Bright, brisk, fresh stony/minerally aromas; a long lively palate and finish; fresh and dry; great seafood style.

Australian Gourmet Traveller WINE’s panel of experts nominated the best examples of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc or Sauvignon Blanc Semillon that they’d encountered during their usual tastings as wines writers.

The bench mark in Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is set by producers predominantly from Western Australia. This wine is made in the style of a classic Margaret River blend. Juicy, lemon-essence flavours, length & zest were picked up by Bourne, while Otton admired its fragrant lift ...

“...this fresh, dry white that provides a brilliant springboard for a whole range of amazing foodstuffs from the sea… This wine achieves an extra dimension of flavour that many others twice the price don’t.”

STELLA BELLA SEMILLON SAUVIGNON BLANC 2003

Best of Australia 2004. Stella Bella Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2003. Fresh and Crisp. This Janice McDonald cocktail is terrific, zesty, racy and nerve-jangling.

written by Phillip White The Adelaide Advertiser, Food & Wine 19/12/03

91 points. Janice McDonald was the fastidious young brewer who helped develop Redback beer. Now she makes fastidiously crafted wines called Stella Bella and Suckfizzle. This minerally blend has delicious melon and stone fruit characters and a dry grainy finish. It’s a cracker. FOOD: Prawns with sweet chilli, snow peas and hazelnuts.

STELLA BELLA SEMILLON SAUVIGNON BLANC 2002

written by James Halliday, The Weekend Australian 28/12/02

Summer sizzles with Semillons. Finally, back over to Margaret River region (which admittedly does well with the blend year in, year out) and another two lovely wines, Stella Bella SSB (92 points) is a mouthful in more ways than one. The mineral streak, which is part and parcel of so many of these wines (and their individual components), is evident here, but the wine fills all the corners of your mouth with its appealing blend of fresh and lively flavours.

SCOOP - I am flagging this wine up although Waitrose only just realised they are going to buy it. This is a simply mind-blowing range of wines including a Sauvignon, Sangiovese/Cabernet, Cabernet/Merlot, Shiraz and, if you don't mind me finding a weak link Chardonnay. See Suckfizzle (reds) for the full story, but this wine is, a serious challenger to cool climate sauvignon-shaped wines.

My palate was hypnotised by the fully ripe, but grippingly dry fruit. The counterpoint of luscious lime sherbet and palate shocking, uvula cryogenics is mind-numbing. I like this wine - it shows just how important WA is to world winemaking, in its teeny, tiny quantity, yet globally serious way. Drink with smart seafood. More info - I am not at liberty to tell you who makes this wine. It is an industry secret and nobody will get this information out of me. I am sworn to secrecy, schtum, tongue-tied and currently hiding in a dark, cold room.

Snappy packaging! This is a new name from Margaret River, and the wine has the capsicum, gooseberry and straw/hay aromas typical of the style. It has pleasing delicacy on the palate and is fresh and vibrant, closing with just a trace of sweetness.Food: asparagus grilled with parmesan and butter. Ageing: drink young.
