Margaret
River is one of the great wine regions of
the world. It has many different areas,
which enjoy differing weather influences
or macroclimates, which influence grape
growing significantly.
The
Willyabrup locality where the original
Willespie plantings and winery are
situated, experiences the moderating
influence of the Indian Ocean, four
kilometres away. The cool breezes and
temperate evenings reflect a Mediterranean
climate.
The new
Willespie vineyard in the Jindong
area is a little further inland and
experiences warmer days and colder nights,
which reflects a more continental climate.
The
macroclimatic influences in the vineyards
of the two areas produce grapes with
different characteristics, which in turn
give the winemakers greater possibilities
and blending options in the winery.
This
philosophy enables us to make the highest
quality wines, that still proclaim
distinctive Margaret River
The wines
produced at Willespie have
collected many awards over the years, both
in Australia and internationally.
Importantly
the wines reflect the place from whence
they came; the different soils, sunshine
hours and rainfall in the vineyards.
Modern viticultural practices and
minimalist winemaking intervention ensure
that the wine in the bottle expresses the
intense varietal and vineyard fruit
characters that set Willespie wines apart
from others.
Stone and
local timber have been used in the
construction of the picturesque and rustic
winery, which blends harmoniously within
the Jarrah and Marri forest.
The cellar
door provides complimentary wine tastings,
which can be enjoyed whilst taking in the
panoramic rural vista from the upper
balcony.
Barbecue
and picnic facilities are available on the
lawn. Light lunches are also usually
available.
